Key Ingredients to make Healthier Apple Sausage Stuffing
– Cubed sandwich bread – both white and wheat – Chicken sausage – Olive oil – Celery – Garlic – Onion – Gala apples
Cut bread into 1-inch pieces, toast on baking sheet for 10-15 mins until slightly crisp. Keep oven on. Once cool, transfer toasted bread to large bowl. Brown chicken sausage in skillet, add to bowl. In same skillet, heat olive oil, sauté celery and onions 5 mins.
Add garlic and apple chunks, sauté 3-5 mins until apples are soft. Pour apple mixture onto bread and sausage in bowl. Add your sage, thyme, salt and pepper on top of bread mixture.
Whisk eggs and chicken stock in a separate bowl. Pour over bread mixture, stirring until evenly coated. Adjust moisture by adding more stock if needed. Transfer to greased 9x13 pan, bake until golden brown. Optionally, add dried cranberries after baking. Enjoy!
