Key Ingredients to make Fall Apple Turkey Burgers
Burgers: – Ground turkey – Apple (I used honey crisp) – Yellow onion – Garlic – Dried Thyme – Salt – Pepper – Optional: Cheddar Cheese Caramelized Onions: – Yellow onion – Avocado oil (or butter) – Salt
To make turkey patties, start by placing ground turkey in a bowl. Use a box grater to shred an apple and onion into the turkey meat. Add garlic, thyme, salt, and pepper to the mixture and mix well until everything is thoroughly combined. You can use your hands for this step. Form the mixture into patties, using approximately 1/2 cup of meat for each patty.
To cook the turkey patties, heat a large skillet with 2 tbsp of avocado oil over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the patties to the skillet. Cook for 5 minutes on one side, then flip them. Reduce the heat to medium-low. If you're adding cheese, do so now. Cover the skillet and cook for another 5 minutes to ensure the inside of the burgers cooks thoroughly. Repeat this process until all the burgers are cooked.
While the turkey burgers are cooking, prepare the caramelized onions. In a separate pan, heat 2 tbsp of avocado oil or butter. When it's hot, add sliced onions and salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the onions become caramelized, which takes about 10-15 minutes. After about 5 minutes, reduce the heat to low.
Assemble your burgers with slices of apples and the caramelized onions on top. Enjoy your delicious turkey burgers!
