Buttery Spritz Cookies in a green bowl

Buttery Spritz Cookies

My spritz cookie recipe is buttery perfection, made with simple baking ingredients like softened butter and vanilla extract. Food colouring and sprinkles add a touch of festivity to these classic holiday cookies.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb butter 2 sticks softened but not melted
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 2 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • red & green food coloring and holiday sprinkles

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 325F.
  2. Cream butter and sugar together, add in eggs and vanilla and beat until creamy. I like using a hand mixer.
  3. Sift together flour, baking soda, and salt. Add to creamed butter mixture. Divide dough into three and add red food dye to one, green food dye to another, and leave the last one plain.
  4. Using a small cookie press, press into different holiday shape cookies. Decorate with sprinkles before baking. Bake for about 10 minutes on ungreased baking sheet. Let cool on tray for 5 minutes then move to wire cookie rack.
