Festive candy cane and white chocolate cookies
In between holiday decorating and hunting down the perfect gifts for loved ones is one of my favorite winter activities โ baking, of course! And these white chocolate candy cane cookies are going to be on repeat this season.
Between the classic white chocolate cookie flavor and the unexpected twist of the mint in the crushed candy canes, these treats are wildly delicious! They’re a crowd favorite, and the large batch (over 40 cookies!) makes it a great recipe for taking to holiday parties.
Ingredients in white chocolate candy cane cookies
This recipe uses standard baking ingredients like butter, sugar, eggs, and flour. Where it gets a bit different is when we add both vanilla and peppermint extract, as well as white chocolate chips! Together, all of these ingredients create the perfect level of chewiness.
- Butter: 1/2 cup of softened butter kicks off this recipe. This is typically one stick of butter.
- Sugar: Sweeten the cookies with 3/4 cup of white granulated sugar. No brown sugar needed here!
- Eggs: 1 egg will help all of the ingredients bind together, and they’ll also help to create the perfect cookie texture.
- Extracts: Next, add flavor with 1 tsp of vanilla extract and 1/4 tsp of peppermint extract.
- Flour: Create the dough by including 1 3/4 cups of all purpose flour.
- Baking soda: Then, add 1 tsp of baking soda to help the cookies bake properly.
- Baking powder: Follow the baking soda with 1/2 tsp of baking powder.
- Salt: Cookies have to have salt! Use 1/2 tsp.
- Chocolate chips: Add the white chocolate with about 1 cup of white chocolate chips.
- Candy canes: Last but not least, finish up this recipe by using 3/4 cup of crushed candy canes. They should be broken into pieces prior to using.

Substitution Tip
Wondering what you can substitute in this recipe? You have a few options! This means that if you find yourself out of an ingredient or two, you may be able to substitute it with other items.
Sugar
Regular granulated sugar can be swapped at a 1:1 ratio with coconut sugar. The cookies will be darker and not quite the same, but it could work!
Eggs
If you’d prefer to skip the eggs, you can try and use 1/2 cup of applesauce instead! Or use a flax-egg. This hasn’t been tested but let us know if you try it!
Chocolate chips
Last but not least, you can replace the white chocolate chips with chocolate, butterscotch, or peanut butter chips โ whatever you prefer!
