These healthy chocolate truffles are a delicious chocolate dessert that are rich and fudgy, but still very healthy. They’re made with simple, nutritious ingredients and are gluten, dairy, and refined sugar free!
The most delicious vegan chocolate truffles
Boy, do I have a healthy treat for you today! Emphasis on treat.
Healthy and fudgy, decadent and rich, ooey and gooey, these dairy free chocolate truffles aren’t playing around. They taste so indulgent, you’d never believe they’re made from healthier ingredients!
This recipe only requires 10 minutes of prep time and yields 10-12 servings. If preparing for a crowd, I recommend doubling your recipe, because nobody will be able to eat just one! Oh, and did I mention that these healthy truffle balls are totally vegan and paleo-approved?!
Ingredients in healthy chocolate truffles
Healthy truffles do not skimp out on flavorful ingredients, I’ll tell you that much! Though healthier ingredients were used, none of the creamy, indulgent flavor is compromised. Wait until you try them. You’re guaranteed to fall in love with that nut butter and coconut flavor!
- Almond Butter: First up for these mouth watering truffles is one of my favorite ingredients – almond butter! Use 3/4 cup, sticking with a natural type if possible.
- Coconut Oil: Next, 2 tbsp of coconut oil will be used to help the ingredients bind together.
- Coconut Cream: Include 1/2 cup of coconut cream. The top of the can from a can of full fat coconut milk will also work.
- Cocoa Powder: Add chocolatey flavor with 1 cup of cocoa powder.
- Vanilla: Up the sweetness with 1/4 tsp of vanilla.
- Coconut Sugar: Include 1 cup of coconut sugar for obvious reasons.
- Salt: Last but not least, include 1/4 tsp of salt.
Tools needed to create homemade truffles
To make these treats, you will need a sauce pan, stirring utensil, baking sheet (or a large tray or plate), and parchment paper.
For measuring, you will need 1/4 tsp, 1 tbsp, 1/2 cup, 3/4 cup, and 1 cup.
How to make paleo chocolate truffles
To make healthy truffles, you just boil some of the ingredients, mix in the other items, and let them chill. Then, you just roll them into balls, coat with your desired toppings, and you’re done! I coat mine in coconut sugar, but other options include cocoa powder, chia seeds, cacao nibs, or cinnamon. You could also drizzle them with melted chocolate, because there’s no such thing as too much chocolate… right?
Begin by placing a medium sized sauce pan over low heat. Melt the coconut oil, coconut cream, and almond butter, heating just long enough for the oil to melt. Too much longer, and the almond butter will burn.
Turn off the heat and stir in the coca powder, vanilla, coconut sugar, and salt. Place on a parchment paper lined baking sheet or plate.
Chill in the refrigerator or freezer for at least 30 minutes.
After chilling, roll the dough into balls and coat in more coconut sugar and melted chocolate chips.
How these truffles are healthier
Typical truffles are made with heavy cream, lots of rich buttery chocolate, and other decadent ingredients. Not these little babies. These truffles are made from nutrient dense ingredients that won’t leave you with a sugar hangover. Want to eat 3? Go for it! With these ingredients, it’s no problem.
Natural Almond Butter
Because almond butter and peanut butter have similar nutritional contents, what truly makes the difference here is the fact that we’re using natural almond butter. Natural options contribute much less chemicals and preservatives and are all around healthier options.
Cocoa Powder
To achieve that rich, decadent taste found in these truffles, cocoa powder was key. By using this, we’re adding great flavor and eliminating the need for extra chocolate.
Coconut Sugar
Finally, I swapped granulated sugar for coconut sugar. This option is less processed and higher in certain nutrients! Plus, it’s yummy.
Storing leftovers
Chocolate truffles can be kept in either the fridge or the freezer. If left on the counter, the coconut oil base could cause them to melt at room temperature.
Enjoy within one week from the fridge, or three months from the freezer.

Great recipe! Delicious as can be! I used crunchy almond butter and they taste out of this world. I also halfed the sugar because I am more in the bitter side.
LOVE them! Everyone should try it.

Hi, I tried to make these today and I just wanted to try a sample so I pro-rated the proportions, the flavour is excellent however when I took it out of the fridge to roll into balls, the dough gets quite wet when I start rolling. Please advise. Thank you
Erin says
Hi Maithili, I’d suggest keeping it in refrigerator for longer or add more cocoa powder next time. Let me know how it goes!
Christine says
Could you make these with no Lakanto monk fruit sugar?
Erin says
I’ve never tested but I’m sure you could!

Made these last night, and WOAH; they are a piece of chocolate heaven! Super simple to made, very clean ingridents, and SO decadent. Biting into one of these is pure bliss, you all honestly need to give these a try! Great for dessert when trying to stay on track, without any lack in flavor. The only thing I did different was halfed the amount of sugar, just because I prefer more bitter chocolate, but the recipe as it stands is amazing ☺️?
