Baked teriyaki salmon recipe
What’s your go-to protein source?
I find it difficult to choose a favorite, opting to keep things varied and interesting with creamy French onion chicken, grilled fish tacos, crispy air fryer tofu, and everything in between.
Still, I must admit that there’s one protein source that holds an extra special place in my heart – salmon!
What’s so great about it?
Besides being a nutritious powerhouse filled with omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin B12, and a rich protein content, it’s darn delicious.
So today, I’m sharing salmon in its best form with my baked teriyaki salmon recipe. It’s made with a bold teriyaki marinade complete with stone-ground mustard, soy sauce, and honey.
I love this recipe because it’s super versatile. Enjoy it as a main dish, chopped on a salad, or shredded into a salmon salad sandwich.

Ingredients needed
Here’s a little bit about everything that goes into my easy teriyaki salmon recipe.
- Salmon fillet: The base of this recipe is one 3-lb salmon fillet. I love incorporating salmon into my week because it’s a delicious protein source that comes with a wack-load of nutritious benefits.
- Teriyaki sauce: I use ¼ cup of teriyaki sauce to bake my salmon in. The flavor combination is equal parts sweet and savory with a subtle tang. For this recipe, I actually ended up using Bachan’s BBQ sauce; it’s a Japanese BBQ sauce that is full of umami flavor and very close to teriyaki.
- Honey: For an extra sweetness, I include 2 tbsp of honey in my salmon marinade. You can swap this for maple syrup if you prefer.
- Soy sauce: 2 tbsp of soy sauce gives this dish depth and a salty kick.
- Stone ground mustard: The secret ingredient in my teriyaki salmon recipe is 2 tbsp of stone ground mustard. I love the bold, vinegary flavor it adds.
- Garlic powder: Finally, I season my salmon bake with ½ teaspoon garlic powder. Everything’s better with garlic!
Kitchen tools required
You’ll need just a few kitchen essentials to complete the recipe, including:
- Baking sheet
- Parchment paper
- Mixing bowl
- Whisk
- Marinade brush
Also, gather a few measuring cups, including ¼ cup, 1 tbsp, and ½ tsp.

How to make teriyaki salmon
First up, preheat your oven to 400°F and line your baking sheet with a piece of parchment paper.
Add the 3 lb salmon fillet to the prepared baking sheet and set aside while you prepare the teriyaki marinade.
To a small mixing bowl, add ¼ teriyaki sauce, 2 tbsp honey, 2 tbsp soy sauce, 2 tbsp stone-ground mustard, and ½ tsp garlic powder. Whisk until well combined.
Using a marinade brush, coat the salmon filet with your elevated teriyaki sauce. Then, pop the tray in the oven and bake for 18-22 minutes.
Your salmon is done when it’s flaky and cooked through.
Recipe tips
Below are some common teriyaki salmon questions. Don’t see the answer you’re looking for? Leave a comment at the bottom of this post!
How to serve teriyaki salmon
I like to serve this salmon as a main dish for dinner, paired with a simple side of steamed rice and stir-fried vegetables. It would also be delicious with a side of cucumber salad.
These combinations make for an easy and well-balanced meal in a pinch.
Leftover salmon is great chopped on a simple green salad or something exciting like my kale superfood salad.
Finally, try leftover salmon as part of a nutritious sandwich. Shred it with chopped celery and equal parts mayonnaise and Greek yogurt for a quick salmon salad.
Alternatively, enjoy your filet on a roll with mayonnaise and crunchy romaine lettuce.

Which toppings go well with teriyaki salmon?
Chopped green onions and toasted sesame seeds are my favorite toppings for this salmon dish. Green onions add a bit of brightness to the sweet sauce, with sesame seeds giving a subtle, nutty crunch.
Other tasty topping options include:
- Pickled ginger
- Sliced avocado
- Pineapple chunks
- Crushed peanuts
- Sriracha
- Spicy mayo
- Cucumber ribbons
- Lime juice
Is salmon a healthy protein source?
Salmon is a nutritious superfood! It can be a great protein source as part of a balanced diet. Some of its health benefits include:
- Protein – Supports bone health, prevents muscle loss, and improves your body’s ability to heal after injury.
- Omega-3 fatty acids – Decreases the risk of disease, reduces inflammation, and supports brain and heart health.
- Vitamin B12 – Provides energy, reduces brain fog, and helps produce red blood cells.
- Vitamin D – Supports strong bones and teeth, improves muscle function, immune health, and fights depression.
- Selenium – Boosts the immune system, supports your metabolism, and contains antioxidants that protect against pollution, stress, and signs of aging.

Can I make this recipe gluten-free?
You can easily make this teriyaki salmon recipe gluten-free. To do so, simply opt for a gluten-free teriyaki sauce and soy sauce.
You could also swap regular soy sauce for gluten-free tamari or coconut aminos.
Can I use store-bought teriyaki sauce for this recipe?
You can absolutely use bottled teriyaki sauce for this baked salmon recipe.
I use Bachan’s BBQ sauce in this recipe, and it is delicious without any modifications needed.
While the flavor combination won’t be as varied, it’ll still be tasty. If you do, however, have a couple of extra minutes to elevate your salmon marinade, I highly recommend it!
Storing leftovers
To store any leftover salmon, allow the fillet to cool completely, then add it to an airtight container.
Your salmon should keep well in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.

Erin you’ve done it again! I’ve been trying to incorporate more salmon into my meal rotation and this is my favorite salmon recipe yet – so easy and so flavorful. I do not have stone ground mustard so I did 2 tbsp of onion powder instead and it was delicious!
