Easy and delicious make-ahead chocolate strawberry overnight oats
This strawberry chocolate chip overnight oats recipe is the perfect balance of nutritious and delicious. This easy make-ahead breakfast is perfect for grabbing on the go. Plus, the oats taste great! The recipe is perfect for busy mornings, slow weekends, or any time that you’d like something nourishing and filling but sweet.

Ingredients in chocolate covered strawberry overnight oats
Here’s everything you’ll need to make these strawberry chocolate chip overnight oats.
- Rolled oats: This recipe begins with a base of rolled oats! You’ll need 1 cup, and any brand works just fine.
- Chia seeds: Next, 2 tbsp of chia seeds will add some density and protein to the oats.
- Salt: Add some flavor by including a pinch of salt.
- Strawberries: Then, it’s time to add the fruit! Dice up 1 cup of strawberries for mixing in.
- Greek yogurt: 1/2 cup of plain Greek yogurt is going to help create the perfect overnight oats texture. It’s also going to thicken up the recipe.
- Maple syrup: Sweeten things up naturally with 2 tbsp of maple syrup.
- Milk: 1 cup of milk is up next! You can use any type of milk. Whole, 2%, skim, oat, or almond milk will all work.
- Chocolate chips: Last but not least, throw in 1/4 cup of mini chocolate chips!
- Toppings: As toppings, set aside some more diced strawberries and grab some flaky sea salt for sprinkling. You can also add more chocolate chips or a chocolate drizzle!
Tools used to make these chocolate and strawberry overnight oats
You’ll need only a handful of kitchen tools and measuring cups to make this recipe. Before you begin, grab the following:
- Mixing bowl
- Stirring utensil
- Potato masher or fork
- Cutting board and knife
- Two mason jars
To measure ingredients, you will need 1 tbsp, 1/4 cup, 1/2 cup, and 1 cup sized measuring cups.

How to make this easy overnight oats recipe
These overnight oats come together in just a few simple steps. You can expect the prep time to be around only 10 minutes!
First, add the oats, chia seeds, and salt to a bowl.
Mash the strawberries with a potato masher or fork until they are macerated. Then, add the strawberries and strawberry juice to the bowl.
Stir in the yogurt, maple syrup, and milk until everything is combined. Then, mix in the mini chocolate chips.
Divide the mixture into two mason jars. Refrigerate the jars for at least 4 hours, or overnight. This recipe will make 2 large servings or 4 small servings.
When you’re ready to enjoy the oats, top them with diced strawberries, flakey sea salt, and more mini chocolate chips or a melted chocolate drizzle!
Can I use quick oats?
Though quick oats may technically work, I recommend rolled oats. Rolled oats create a nice creamy texture, whereas quick oats can turn a bit mushy. Steel-cut oats may not wind up as soft as desired. For the best results, stick with rolled oats.

Recipe Tips
Can I add protein to this recipe?
Yes! If you’d like to add a bit of protein powder, feel free to do so during step 1.
Is this recipe healthy?
These overnight oats are loaded with nutrients like protein, healthy carbohydrates, fiber, and more. They make a wonderful and well-rounded option.

What would you replace the yogurt with if lactose free needs?
Jenny says
After I saw this recipe on instagram last night I knew I had to try it. It was delicious! The perfect amount of sweetness and it didn’t have that weird after taste that I feel like a lot of other overnight oats have. I made the recipe as written but added in unflavored protein powder(one of Erin’s suggestions) and I added slivered almonds in this morning. I can’t wait to have the other half of the recipe tomorrow morning.
Thanks for another great recipe Erin.
