Enjoy the best of two delicious dishes with this BLT chicken salad. The bacon, lettuce, and tomato combined with the classic chicken salad ingredients creates a crunchy, juicy, mouth watering recipe. Perfect for enjoying with crackers or chips, on bread or a wrap, or in a salad!

BLT chicken salad

An easy best of both worlds recipe

Over here, we’re big chicken salad people. The archives prove it! Coincidentally, we’re also big fans of a good, classic BLT. When you layer crunchy bacon, crispy lettuce, and juicy tomato on bread, what more is there to love?

Today, we’re combining our love for chicken salad and BLTs into one delicious recipe. This BLT Chicken Salad is the most delicious flavor combo. Made with all the classics from each recipe, the taste is to die for!

This is the perfect meal for making on Sunday and enjoying throughout the week. Enjoy it with crunchy crackers or chips, atop breads or wraps, or even in a salad.

Ingredients in BLT chicken salad

The ingredients for this recipe are made with the best parts of both dishes. From the BLTs, we’re bringing in tomato, lettuce, and bacon. From the chicken salad, we’re using chicken (of course!), celery, grapes, and onion. Combine everything with mayo, Greek yogurt, mustard, and spices, and you have the most delicious combo!

  • Chicken breasts: Chicken is the first ingredient in this recipe. You will need 3 small or 2 large cooked chicken breasts.
  • Lettuce: Next up is some lettuce! Finely chop 1 cup. You can use romaine, iceberg, or whatever you prefer.
  • Celery: Add some crunchy flavor with 1 cup of diced celery.
  • Grape tomatoes: Follow the celery with 1 cup of sliced grape tomatoes. If you have cherry tomatoes, those work too!
  • Red onion: 1/2 cup of diced red onion will add some great flavor to the dish.
  • Bacon: Now for everyone’s favorite ingredient — bacon! Use 12 sliced of cooked bacon. It should be chopped into small pieces before adding to the dish.
  • Greek yogurt: The dressing kicks off with 1 cup of plain Greek yogurt.
  • Mayonnaise: Then, follow the yogurt with 1/4 cup of mayonnaise.
  • Dijon mustard: 1 tbsp of dijon mustard brings the sauce together.
  • Seasonings: Last but not least, finish off with the spices. Use 1 tsp of salt, 1/2 tsp of pepper, 1/2 tsp of onion powder, and 1/2 tsp of garlic powder.

Tools needed to make this classic BLT chicken salad

To make this recipe, you will need a handful of kitchen tools. Before you begin, grab the following:

  • Cutting board
  • Chopping knife
  • Food processor
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Stirring utensil
  • Medium mixing bowl
  • Whisk

To measure out ingredients, you will need 1/2 tsp, 1 tsp, 1 tbsp, 1/4 cup, 1/2 cup, and 1 cup sized measuring cups.

How to make this BLT chicken salad recipe

Ready to get started? If your chicken and bacon are already cooked, you can expect the prep time for this recipe to total about 15 minutes.

First, add the chicken to a food processor and pulse for 10 seconds to finely shred. Alternatively, you can shred the chicken by hand.

Next, add the shredded chicken to a large mixing bowl. Then, add the lettuce, celery, tomatoes, red onion, and bacon.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the yogurt, mayo, dijon mustard, salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder.

Pour the dressing over the chicken mixture. Mix until everything is well combined.

Serve on bread, with chips, with crackers, in a romaine lettuce wrap, in a tortilla wrap, or on a salad!

Recipe Tips

What is chicken salad sauce made of?

The chicken salad sauce in this particular recipe is made with yogurt, mayo, dijon mustard, salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder.

What can I add to this chicken salad?

So many yummy ingredients can be added to this chicken salad or the method in which you serve it. For example, a BLT chicken salad sandwich tastes great when you add smashed avocado to the bread or wrap! You can also add green onion, shredded cheese, and/or even a dash of lemon juice for a touch of tangy flavor.

Can I use rotisserie chicken to make chicken salad?

You sure can! Using a rotisserie chicken is a great “hack” that speeds up a bit of the prep process. You can use the extra chicken for another meal too!

Can I use crispy bacon in this recipe?

Absolutely! Any sort of bacon tastes great in this dish — crispy, juicy, maple, smoked, etc.

Storing leftovers

To store leftovers, transfer them to an airtight container and place in the refrigerator. Enjoy within 3-4 days. To freeze for later, follow the same airtight container method, and freeze. Enjoy frozen chicken salad within 3 months.

Holy moly this is so good! Made it last night to have meals for the week! Been eating it on slices of bell peppers! Yum! Note: I didn’t have red onion on hand so I used white onion that we already had. I’ve also been putting some sriracha on it during meal time for an extra spicy kick! Great job Erin! So good!
