A quick and easy lemon margarita recipe

If you’re in the mood for an icy margarita but want to try something new, consider this lemon margarita the perfect option! With the margarita ingredients we all know and love (looking at you, tequila, triple sec, and simple syrup!), this margarita earns a twist with the addition of lemon juice and lemon seltzer. Much like using lime juice, this lemon rendition supplies tangy, sour flavor. It’s perfect for sipping on a relaxing Friday evening or on Taco Tuesday alongside a plate of chips and queso!

Ingredients in this lemon margarita

This classic margarita get a nice spin when we bring in the lemon juice and lemon seltzer. In addition to that, you will need standard margarita ingredients like tequila, triple sec, and sugar/salt!

  • Tequila: The base of this margarita uses 6 oz of blanco tequila.
  • Lemon juice: To add the lemon flavor, use 4 oz of freshly squeezed lemon juice. I recommend fresh lemon juice because it creates the best possible flavor!
  • Triple sec: Then, add some extra citrus taste with 2 oz of triple sec, Cointreau, or other orange liqueur.
  • Simple syrup: To sweeten things up and prevent a bitter taste, 2 oz of simple syrup does the trick. If you prefer a different type of sweetener or even a splash of lemonade, that’s fine! Agave syrup is another option.
  • Lemon seltzer: Next, add some carbonation and additional lemon flavor by including 4 oz of lemon seltzer. Any brand is fine!
  • Ice: You’ll need about 1 cup of ice cubes for the 2 cocktails.
  • Rims: Last but not least, you’ll need a lemon wedge and sugar and/or salt to line the rims.

Tools needed to make lemon margaritas

To make these margaritas, you will need a shaker and two margarita glasses. You’ll also need an ounce measuring tool to accurately measure out the ingredients.

How to make this margarita with lemon

Ready to get started? This cocktail is a breeze to bring together and should take less than 5 minutes to prepare.

To begin, add ice to a cocktail shaker. Pour in the tequila, lemon juice, triple sec, and simple syrup. Shake until everything is well combined.

Then, create sugared or salted rim by running a lemon wedge around the rim of the glasses and then lining them with salt or sugar. Add the ice and pour in the margarita. Add 2oz of seltzer and mix with a spoon. Garnish with a lemon wedge, and enjoy!

Easily double the recipe to serve 4

Have extra guests and want to double the batch? That’s easy! Use a pitcher and stirrer rather than an ice shaker, and repeat the instructions as listed above. Use the following measurements:

  • Tequila: 1.5 cups
  • Lemon juice: 1 cup
  • Triple sec: 4 oz
  • Simple syrup: 4 oz
  • Lemon seltzer: 1 cup
  • Ice: 2 cups

Recipe Tips

Can I use lime juice?

Sure! If you would like to create a lemon lime margarita, feel free to substitute the fresh lemon juice for fresh lime juice. The lime juice paired with the lemon seltzer will create a delicious lemon lime flavor.

What are some other garnish ideas?

Take your margarita presentation to the next level with fun garnishes. You could add lemon zest, honey, jalapeno slices for something unexpected (pair with a tajin rim for extra spice), fruit wedges (lemon, lime, or citrus), or even a pineapple slice!

Can I use these ingredients to make a frozen margarita?

Yes! Simply add to a blender and blend. You may need some extra ice to get the right texture.
