The turkey burger, transformed

Everyone has had their fair share of burgers, but I can bet that not everyone has had a Greek burger. Oh, yeah. The tables are totally turned when you add a delicious Greek tzatziki sauce to a turkey burger. It’s like magic right in front of your taste buds!

These healthy Greek burgers with tzatziki sauce are truly life changing. They’re made with a burger base of turkey, red onion, spinach, and feta! When placed on a bread or lettuce bun with tomato, onion, and tzatziki (a delicious Greek yogurt and cucumber sauce), transformative things happen.

For your next burger night, say goodbye to your plain ole’ boring turkey burger and instead opt for this incredible Greek meal that’s simple and easy to make. Your friends and family will thank you.

Ingredients used to make Greek burgers with tzatziki sauce

When it comes to making the turkey burger patties for this recipe, things couldn’t be easier. We will be blending a mix of ground turkey, red onion, spinach, and various spices.

Oh, and don’t forget the feta! This ingredient takes the patties to the next level.

  • Ground turkey
  • Feta
  • Garlic
  • Red onion
  • Spinach
  • Oregano
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Tzatziki sauce

Tools used to make this recipe

To make this Greek food recipe, a few tools are needed for both the burger and the sauce portions. To make the burgers, you will need a mixing bowl, a skillet, and a spatula. For the sauce, you will need two mixing bowls and a stirring utensil.

How to make healthy Greek turkey burgers with tzatziki

This ground turkey recipe is made exactly how you’d expect. After mixing the ground meat with various ingredients, we will form them into patties and let them sizzle on the stove for a bit before diving into making the sauce. In total, this meal should only take about 20-25 minutes to create!

To make Greek burgers, start by combining all of the burger ingredients in a bowl. Using your hands, mix until everything well combined.

Form the mix into patties, using about 1/2 cup of meat for each.

Next, heat a large cast-iron or nonstick skillet with 2 tbsp of avocado oil over medium heat. Once hot, add the burgers.

Cook for 5 minutes on one side, and then flip and turn the heat to medium low. Cover for the next 5 minutes so the inside cooks. Repeat until all of the burgers are fully cooked.

After cooking, prepare the healthy tzatziki sauce recipe using the directions listed in the sauce recipe.

Serve with onion and tomato on a bread or lettuce bun, and enjoy!

A healthier burger recipe

This recipe is one of my go-to meals because it has so many health benefits. To start, turkey meat is a very filling, lean meat. It’s high in protein and low in fat and provides a quality serving of Vitamin B6. Plus, I sneak extra veggies into the burger mix to provide even more nutrients!

The tzatziki sauce is a refreshing addition that also provides a good amount of protein. It’s made with Greek yogurt, which speaks for itself!

If you’re craving a nice burger but want to stay on the healthier side of things, this recipe is the perfect option.

Turkey burger makin’ tips

Here are some pointers and recommendations for making healthy Greek burgers.

Cooking the turkey burgers
Be sure that the internal temperature of the burgers reaches at least 165F before removing from the skillet. They can be a tad pink, though they should not be overly pink.

Turkey burger cooking length
It should take about 10 minutes to cook a turkey burger, though this can vary depending on how thick you make the patties. 5 minutes per side seems to be the average timeframe.

Can I use store bought tzatziki?
Store bought tzatziki will work just fine in this recipe! Though I like to make my own (it’s so simple!), store bought will save you a few extra minutes and probably tastes just as delicious!

Storing leftovers
Leftover turkey burgers can be stored in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. Keep them in an airtight container or tightly sealed in plastic wrap.

Turkey burger sides

These burgers are SO good – they’re so juicy and flavorful. I’ve made them maybe eight times because they’re that amazing. My boyfriend loves them too, and has actually requested that I add them to the menu, more than once! I’ve subbed ground beef for turkey before and they turned out just as well.

Really loved these burgers! Made them exactly as described with the tzatziki and they were a huge hit! The only thing I’ll say is that they were MASSIVE…I feel like I could’ve made 5-6 burgers from this recipe, so next time I will prob use this quantity for 5 burgers, but they were excellent. Thanks, Erin!

These are a must try! I tend to stay away from Turkey burgers because they can be dry, but not these. Even reheated they are great. These burgers are so delicious and have become part of our weekly rotation!

Made these for the first time. They were delicious. My husband ate the leftovers for lunch everyday last week.

I cooked them in a cast iron pan, and there was so much liquid in pan that they didn’t get as crispy as I would have liked. Could it have been the fresh spinach? I didn’t used feta because I’m dairy free. Thank you!

Hi Margie, glad you liked them! Hm, that’s weird! I would say just drain the liquid as best you can in between batches. Let me know how they come out next time!

I always buy ground turkey at the grocery store so I always have what I need to make these or the Fall Apple ones! My very picky and vegetable-averse husband is OBSESSED and they are so good so these are a go-to.

Hi Erin! I found this recipe in the #TigherTogether recipe manual. I am 100% Greek and these did not disappoint! These are incredible!

My ground turkey was very sticky, and I’ve never been good at making burgers…. so no surprise when I burned one side trying to get it to the appropriate internal temperature. But I ate it anyway, and it was DELICIOUS!

This recipe was outstanding! Whole family loved it with the tzatziki sauce. I think I need to cut the cucumbers smaller next time as they fell off the burger but so good! I also cut the sauce in 1/2 as it was a lot and still had leftovers! Putting it in our family rotation
