Healthy Reese’s Eggs are an all-natural, vegan alternative to the classic candy treats. This no-bake, foolproof recipe creates peanut butter eggs that are absolutely mouth watering. You’re about to have your new go-to dessert!

Delicious and healthy peanut butter cups
It’s a classic debate: Which is better, the standard Reese’s cups, or the eggs? Sure, Reese’s also makes heart, pumpkin, and tree shapes, but I’m a firm believer that the eggs are the best because they have the strongest peanut butter to chocolate ratio! After all, the peanut butter is hands down the best part of a chocolate butter cup.
Reese’s have always been my go-to candy, but as I’ve gotten older I’ve done my best to stay pretty far away from processed foods. That especially includes candies! When I felt a pull and stopped by the seasonal isle of the grocery store the other day, it hit me: Why not just make my own healthy peanut butter eggs at home? I knew I had to give it a try!
I must say, that try turned into a huge success. These peanut butter eggs are absolutely mouth watering and delicious! They taste just like the classic candy, but are way more nutritious.
This spring, homemade healthy Reese’s candy is a must!

Peanut butter eggs recipe ingredients
To make homemade peanut butter cups, only 5 ingredients are needed. Though the classic candies are made with a long list of icky ingredients, we only need 5 items to make our healthy version!
- Peanut butter
- Coconut flour or almond flour
- Maple syrup
- Dark chocolate
- Coconut oil
Tools used to make healthy Reese’s eggs
To make your own homemade Reese’s candy, you’ll need a mixing bowl, stirring utensil, microwavable bowl (or small pot), and a fork or tool for dipping. Additionally, a baking sheet and parchment paper will be helpful for laying out and refrigerating the peanut butter eggs.

How to make homemade Reese’s peanut butter eggs
You’d think a candy recipe would be complex, but it isn’t! This is essentially a no-bake dessert recipe that requires nothing more than a bit of mixing and refrigerating. Here’s how this recipe is made:
In a bowl, mix the peanut butter, flour, and maple syrup.
Once fully combined, form the dough into egg shapes and place in the freezer for 30 minutes.
Next, melt the chocolate and coconut oil together while the eggs are freezing.
Remove the frozen eggs from the freezer and dip each egg into the melted chocolate until completely coated. Drizzle more chocolate on top and/or sprinkle with sea salt if desired.
Place the chocolate coated peanut butter eggs in the freezer for a minimum of 30 minutes.
Enjoy!
Homemade healthy Reese’s eggs FAQs
Here are some answers to the most popular peanut butter egg questions! If you have more questions about this recipe, feel free to comment below.
How can I add a bit of crunch?
You can get as creative as you’d like with your candies! One way is to add a bit of crunch. This can be done by adding smashed graham crackers to the peanut butter mixture or sprinkling them on top! You can also add smashed nuts to the top of your peanut butter eggs.
Is peanut butter healthy?
Peanut butter comes with a long list of nutrients including protein, potassium, fiber, and magnesium. The key is to go the all-natural route for the highest concentration of nutrients.
How should I store chocolate butter cups?
Store peanut butter eggs in an airtight container in the fridge or freezer. They will last a few days in the fridge, and up to one month when frozen. Remember to let them thaw before eating!

How to substitute butter cup ingredients
If you’re in the mood to for healthy Reese’s cups but don’t have everything on hand, check this list before running to the store. The ingredient that you do have may work! Below are some commonly used ingredient swaps.
- Peanut butter: Feel free to use cashew, almond, or sunflower seed butter in place of peanut butter. This will most likely alter the taste, but it will still be delicious!
- Maple syrup: You may use honey, molasses, or coconut sugar in place of maple syrup.
- Dark chocolate: Give your peanut butter eggs a twist by using white chocolate! This makes for seriously delicious candies.
- Coconut oil: Any high fat oil will work in place of coconut oil. Olive, sunflower seed, almond, and avocado oil are all options.
A healthier Reese’s candy
Regular peanut butter cups are delicious, but they’re filled with a long list of less than ideal ingredients. Preservatives and chemicals, anyone?
When I set out to make a healthy version of my all-time favorite candy, I stuck to it! I used just five ingredients, all of which are beneficial and superior to their alternatives. Here’s why.
- All-natural peanut butter: All -natural nut butters are always the ideal option. Processed nut butters are filled with chemicals, GMOs, and other gnarly ingredients. Keep it all-natural for the best results, flavors, and nutrients.
- Coconut or almond flour: As far as flour goes, I always choose coconut or almond over all-purpose. For these peanut butter eggs, I stick with the good stuff.
- All-natural maple syrup: The great thing about maple syrup is that it acts as a natural sweetener all on its own. The flavor is unbeatable, and it’s a fabulous replacement for granulated sugar.
- Dark chocolate: Dark chocolate is great for our blood pressure, brain function, and more. It’s actually healthy when eaten in proper amounts! Plus, most dark chocolate is vegan-friendly (be sure to check your package for specific ingredients).
- Coconut oil: Where processed peanut butter eggs contain hydrogenated vegetable oil, these contain all-natural coconut oil. This is a swap that’s good for cholesterol, energy, digestion, and more.

These are the real deal!! I’ve probably make this recipe 6 or 7 times. I like to keep a stash in the freezer 😉 it had been a while since I made the recipe, and was too tired to make them last night so I was dipping dark chocolate in peanut butter but it wasn’t the same. Erin says
Yes!!
Ashlee says
Is there a sub for the flour? I don’t have almond or coconut flour on hand — I have gluten free 1-1 or oat flour. Thanks!
Erin says
start with 1/2 cup oat and add as needed until firm enough!
Sierra says
Before I try this recipe, I was wondering how much you taste the coconut flour? My boyfriend isn’t too keen on coconut flavor, but it’s all I have on hand, and I’m desperate to make these!
Erin says
I don’t think super coconutty, but depends how much he hates it, haha. I think the peanut butter over powers it.
Kayla says
These are AMAZING! I made 16 mini ones and we devoured them in 2 days!!
Erin says
Hi Kayla, ah I love hearing that!!
Alexis says
Hi! I would love to make these but only have all purpose flour, will that work the same or change the flavor completely?
Erin says
Hi Alexis, it’s not healthy to eat raw flour, so if you do this, be sure to bake it for 5 minutes at 350 first. Let me know how yours come out!!
