Easy and delicious soup dumpling meatballs
Have you ever enjoyed the flavor of soup dumplings and wished you could bottle it up to enjoy again and again? Now you can! These delicious soup dumpling meatballs capture the delicious flavor of Chinese dumpling filling. Made with ground turkey, green onions, soy sauce, and more, they’re a nutrient-rich option that tastes great too.
Ingredients in this soup dumpling meatballs recipe
The ingredients for this recipe are divided into two parts: those for the meatballs, and the rest for the sauce. Many of the ingredients are used in both parts, such as the minced garlic, soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, and sesame oil.
Meatballs
- Ground turkey: The meatball base begins with 1 lb of ground turkey. The 93/7 blend will work best for this recipe. If desired, feel free to substitute with ground beef or ground pork/sausage.
- Egg: Next is 1 large egg. This is going to help all of the ingredients bind together to form meatballs.
- Breadcrumbs: 1/2 cup of breadcrumbs (or almond flour) thickens up the meatballs and helps to create the proper texture.
- Garlic: Garlic is a must! Use 2 cloves of minced garlic. If using garlic powder, use 1/2 tsp.
- Green onions: Add some delicious onion flavor with 2 chopped green onions. You can add some extra vegetables by adding 1/2 chopped sweet onion as well.
- Soy sauce: Next up is 2 tbsp of soy sauce. I recommend using a reduced sodium type.
- Rice wine vinegar: 1 tbsp of red wine vinegar adds a slight bite to the dish.
- Sesame oil: Follow the red wine vinegar with 2 tsp of sesame oil.
- Salt & pepper: Then, season up the mixture with 1/2 tsp of salt and 1/4 tsp of black pepper.
- Cilantro: Last but not least, throw in 1/4 cup of chopped cilantro.
Sauce
- Soy sauce: First up for the sauce is 1/2 cup of soy sauce. Once again, stick with a reduced sodium type.
- Honey: The magic ingredient in this sauce is 1/4 cup of honey! This adds a delicious sweet flavor.
- Rice wine vinegar: 2 tbsp of rice wine vinegar adds a nice bite and compliments the flavor of the meatballs.
- Sesame oil: Follow the vinegar with another 2 tsp of sesame oil.
- Garlic: Just like with the meatballs, garlic is a must in the sauce. Use another 2 cloves of minced (or 1/2 tsp of garlic powder).
- Chili oil: Finish off the sauce with 1 tsp of chili oil. This adds a touch of heat.

First, add all of the meatball ingredients to a large bowl. Mix together until well combined.
Then, roll the mixture into 20 meatballs. Heat a large skillet over medium heat with 2 tbsp of olive oil. Once hot, add the meatballs and cook for 7-8 minutes, turning constantly to ensure even cooking on all sides. Once the meatballs reach 165ยฐF, they are done.
Meanwhile, add all of the sauce ingredients to a small saucepan. Bring to a low simmer and turn off the heat.
Once the meatballs are cooked, turn off the heat and pour in the sauce to cover the meatballs. Toss to coat.
Serve the meatballs over rice and with veggies. You could also top with sesame seeds or fresh parsley and/or serve with pasta if desired.
Storing leftovers
Leftover meatballs can be transferred to an airtight container and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
If you’d like to freeze meatballs for later, freeze the uncooked, formed meatballs in a freezer bag and remove the air. Store in the freezer for up to one month. When ready to make, transfer the bag to the refrigerator to thaw overnight, and then cook using the directions below.

These were really good easy to make and yummy! Nice, light meal and taste just like dumplings filling. I could use some tips on how to make meatballs a little more uniform; but thatโs a me thing. May add a little bit of cornstarch to sauce mixture next time to thicken it up.
