Healthy Cookie Dough Balls are a delicious snack and that take only minutes to make. They’re filled with nut butter, sweetened with honey, and use only five ingredients total!

Easy and delicious healthy cookie dough balls
If there’s one thing I know about myself, it’s that I need a snack in between lunch and dinner. If that doesn’t happen, I will become hangry, and no one likes hangry Erin. These healthy cookie dough balls are the perfect solution! They’re filling, fuel me through the remainder of the day, and taste good alone or paired with something else.
They not only satisfy my mid-afternoon hunger craving but also my hankering for something sweet. Win-win! They’re easy to make, use minimal ingredients, and taste just like cookie dough. You’re going to want to make them again and again!
I also have a cake batter version of these that are a must-try!

Ingredients in chocolate chip cookie dough balls
These healthy cookie dough bites are made with a series of ingredients that create a delicious flavor, perfect texture, and nutrient-rich ingredient profile. Here’s everything you’ll need!
- Oat flour: First up is 1 cup + 2 tbsp of oat flour. This is going to form the base of the cookie dough balls.
- Nut butter: Next, 1/2 cup of nut butter adds both flavor and protein. I prefer salted peanut butter or cashew butter.
- Honey: To add a sweet flavor without using granulated sugar, add 3 tbsp of honey.
- Coconut oil: 1 tbsp of coconut oil will give the cookie dough the correct texture. It should be melted before using in the recipe, and feel free to add more if needed.
- Vanilla extract: Next up is 1 tsp of vanilla. This ingredient makes all of the difference, so be sure not to skip it!
- Salt: If your nut butter is made without salt, add a pinch to the batter.
- Chocolate chips: Last but not least, you will need 1/2 cup of chocolate chips. This is the most important ingredient of all, if I do say so myself! If you prefer dark chocolate chips, feel free to substitute.
Tools used to make these cookie dough treats
To make this no-bake recipe, you’ll only need a few kitchen tools ā just a large mixing bowl and a stirring utensil! A cookie scoop is recommended for shaping the balls, but not required. For measuring out ingredients, you will need 1 tsp, 1 tbsp, 1/2 cup, and 1 cup sized measuring cups.

How to make healthy cookie dough balls
These treats are super simple to make, and they make a wonderful make-ahead option for enjoying throughout the week. All you need is one bowl, about five minutes, and some refrigeration time and you’ve got yourself the best little healthy cookie dough balls ever. Here’s how it’s done!
First, mix together all of the ingredients in a bowl until they’re well combined.
If the batter is too wet to roll into balls, allow it to chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
Roll the dough into balls and store them in the fridge or freezer. If you store in the freezer, allow them to thaw for a few minutes prior to eating.

Recipe Tips
What if I don’t have oat flour?
If you’re out of oat flour but have rolled oats, you’re in luck! You can make your own oat flour by pulsing rolled oats in a food processor or Vitamix until it becomes a completely fine and flour-like consistency.
Do I have to use peanut butter?
Nope! You can use any nut butter to make this dessert or snack. Cashew butter works well, as does almond butter. You can even use sunflower seed butter if you don’t eat nuts!
How big should I make my cookie dough balls?
I recommend making each bite about 1.5 inches, which will create around 12 total.
Are dough balls healthy?
That depends how you make them! This recipe uses oat flour, nut butter, honey, coconut oil, vanilla, salt, and chocolate chips. The oat flour and nut butter add protein, and the honey, salt, and coconut oil contribute essential nutrients!
Storing leftovers
Healthy cookie dough balls can be stored in the refrigerator or the freezer! I recommend keeping them in the fridge if you plan to snack soon, but the freezer is fine too. Just be sure to let them thaw for a few minutes before enjoying from frozen.

If you liked this recipe, you’ll want to try these!
So many pre-packaged grab and go options are filled with gross ingredients and packed with sugar, so that’s why I always prefer homemade.
I want to be able to control what I’m eating. Though there are tons of brands of snack bars and bites that I absolutely love (RxBars, Emmys Cookies, Larabar), I really prefer to make everything homemade. Here are some more protein-rich snacks that you may love!

Notes
- Don’t skip the vanilla extract ā it makes all the difference! This is one of those ingredients that can easily get overlooked, but it’s essential for that classic cookie dough flavor. It’s in there for a reason!
- If the dough is too wet to roll, just pop it in the fridge for 30 minutes. The mixture will firm right up and be much easier to roll into balls. No need to add more flour or panic ā just be patient!
- Use salted peanut butter or cashew butter for the best flavor. The salt in the nut butter balances out the sweetness perfectly. If your nut butter doesn’t have salt, just add a pinch to the batter.

Darian says
Can I use real butter instead of coconut oil?
Erin says
Hi Darian, yes! Let me know how they come out for you!
Anna says
Really nice taste and texture. I had an odd amount of oat flour to use up so I didnāt really follow the quantities listed, just increased the pb and coconut oil a bit to compensate for the additional flour. It was quite forgiving and they are delish. Will be a go to, Iām sure. Thank you!

Hi Anna, so happy you loved them! š
Selena says
Hi,
Have you tried using lupin flour? I have some and need to use it!
Erin says
Hi Selena, I have not yet, but feel free to give it a try and just double check the ratio since not all flours are 1:1. Let me know how it comes out!!
Sarah says
Do I need to use oat flour?
Erin says
Hi Sarah, you can try a different flour. Before you bake just be sure to check the ratio because some flours are not a 1:1 ratio. Let me know what flour you use and how it comes out!

These turned out perfectly! Iāve been making similar for years, but for whatever reason, they were coming out dry each time, despite changing quantities. I think the oat flour in this recipe was key, along with the perfect ratio of wet ingredients. My daughter and I whipped these up this morning and each enjoyed one already.
Erin says
Hi Liz, so glad you both loved them!!

I am a chocoholic and found that a quarter cup chocolate chips was plenty. I subbed 1 cup almond flour (that’s what I had) and about a teaspoon coconut oil (all I had), and they are perfect. Delicious!

I want to make these but include vanilla protein powder. Could I just add the protein powder or sub it for some of the flour?
Erin says
Hi Erin, I would just add the powder to the recipe and maybe a little extra coconut oil so they aren’t too dry. Let me know how they come out!
AJ says
Have you tried incorporating cacao powder in as well?
Erin says
Hi AJ, I haven’t but you definitely can add it!
Kristen says
I sub vanilla protein powder for the 2 TBSP oat flour and they taste great
