Healthy Cookie Dough Balls are a delicious snack and that take only minutes to make. They’re filled with nut butter, sweetened with honey, and use only five ingredients total!

Easy and delicious healthy cookie dough balls
If there’s one thing I know about myself, it’s that I need a snack in between lunch and dinner. If that doesn’t happen, I will become hangry, and no one likes hangry Erin. These healthy cookie dough balls are the perfect solution! They’re filling, fuel me through the remainder of the day, and taste good alone or paired with something else.
They not only satisfy my mid-afternoon hunger craving but also my hankering for something sweet. Win-win! They’re easy to make, use minimal ingredients, and taste just like cookie dough. You’re going to want to make them again and again!
I also have a cake batter version of these that are a must-try!

Ingredients in chocolate chip cookie dough balls
These healthy cookie dough bites are made with a series of ingredients that create a delicious flavor, perfect texture, and nutrient-rich ingredient profile. Here’s everything you’ll need!
- Oat flour: First up is 1 cup + 2 tbsp of oat flour. This is going to form the base of the cookie dough balls.
- Nut butter: Next, 1/2 cup of nut butter adds both flavor and protein. I prefer salted peanut butter or cashew butter.
- Honey: To add a sweet flavor without using granulated sugar, add 3 tbsp of honey.
- Coconut oil: 1 tbsp of coconut oil will give the cookie dough the correct texture. It should be melted before using in the recipe, and feel free to add more if needed.
- Vanilla extract: Next up is 1 tsp of vanilla. This ingredient makes all of the difference, so be sure not to skip it!
- Salt: If your nut butter is made without salt, add a pinch to the batter.
- Chocolate chips: Last but not least, you will need 1/2 cup of chocolate chips. This is the most important ingredient of all, if I do say so myself! If you prefer dark chocolate chips, feel free to substitute.
Tools used to make these cookie dough treats
To make this no-bake recipe, you’ll only need a few kitchen tools ā just a large mixing bowl and a stirring utensil! A cookie scoop is recommended for shaping the balls, but not required. For measuring out ingredients, you will need 1 tsp, 1 tbsp, 1/2 cup, and 1 cup sized measuring cups.

How to make healthy cookie dough balls
These treats are super simple to make, and they make a wonderful make-ahead option for enjoying throughout the week. All you need is one bowl, about five minutes, and some refrigeration time and you’ve got yourself the best little healthy cookie dough balls ever. Here’s how it’s done!
First, mix together all of the ingredients in a bowl until they’re well combined.
If the batter is too wet to roll into balls, allow it to chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
Roll the dough into balls and store them in the fridge or freezer. If you store in the freezer, allow them to thaw for a few minutes prior to eating.

Recipe Tips
What if I don’t have oat flour?
If you’re out of oat flour but have rolled oats, you’re in luck! You can make your own oat flour by pulsing rolled oats in a food processor or Vitamix until it becomes a completely fine and flour-like consistency.
Do I have to use peanut butter?
Nope! You can use any nut butter to make this dessert or snack. Cashew butter works well, as does almond butter. You can even use sunflower seed butter if you don’t eat nuts!
How big should I make my cookie dough balls?
I recommend making each bite about 1.5 inches, which will create around 12 total.
Are dough balls healthy?
That depends how you make them! This recipe uses oat flour, nut butter, honey, coconut oil, vanilla, salt, and chocolate chips. The oat flour and nut butter add protein, and the honey, salt, and coconut oil contribute essential nutrients!
Storing leftovers
Healthy cookie dough balls can be stored in the refrigerator or the freezer! I recommend keeping them in the fridge if you plan to snack soon, but the freezer is fine too. Just be sure to let them thaw for a few minutes before enjoying from frozen.

If you liked this recipe, you’ll want to try these!
So many pre-packaged grab and go options are filled with gross ingredients and packed with sugar, so that’s why I always prefer homemade.
I want to be able to control what I’m eating. Though there are tons of brands of snack bars and bites that I absolutely love (RxBars, Emmys Cookies, Larabar), I really prefer to make everything homemade. Here are some more protein-rich snacks that you may love!

- Healthy Protein Brownie Batter
- Copycat Homemade Perfect Bars

Notes
- Don’t skip the vanilla extract ā it makes all the difference! This is one of those ingredients that can easily get overlooked, but it’s essential for that classic cookie dough flavor. It’s in there for a reason!
- If the dough is too wet to roll, just pop it in the fridge for 30 minutes. The mixture will firm right up and be much easier to roll into balls. No need to add more flour or panic ā just be patient!
- Use salted peanut butter or cashew butter for the best flavor. The salt in the nut butter balances out the sweetness perfectly. If your nut butter doesn’t have salt, just add a pinch to the batter.

I don’t think I’ve ever left a review for a “healthy” recipe because they never seem to work out. This particular recipe though is worthy of a 5-star review. I was scouring the internet for edible cookie dough recipes with ingredients that I had at home. I ended up making my own oat flour (a first for me and SO easy), substituted dark chocolate chips because they’re what I had, and substituted almond milk for the cocunut oil.
These were delicious! Tastes like a no-bake cookie to me, but much easier to make. Took maybe 5 minutes to prep (including trying to find my food processor)
Erin says
Hi Rachel, I am SO glad you loved them so much and made them your own!! š

Erin says
Hi Yejin, yes you can use whatever flour your prefer and just check the ratio first since some aren’t 1:1. Let me know how they come out!

angie says
alright, couple things: made it. tried it.
1) i noticed many people in the comments complained about this being too dry, so i scooped 1/4 cup at a time until it seemed like cookie dough (not sticky!) placed it in the fridge for 10 min to let the oat flour absorb, took it out…. perfection
2) didn’t have mini chips, so i chopped up regular choc chips into mini pieces, used about a heaping 1/4 cup
3) rolled it into 1 tbsp size balls (yielded 12) and refrigerated.
final thoughts: i have been s e a r c h i n g for a good chocolate chip cookie dough (like, for over a year) and was disappointed with the “overly sweet” “too wet” “too healthy-tasting” cookie doughs. i was honestly THIS close to giving up. LO AND BEHOLD: found this.
erin ur a goddess. hats off to u for this DELISH recipe. woohoo!

Natasha says
Hi, I really love edible cookie dough and Iām trying to find a healthier recipe for it, but we normally donāt buy but butters at all, as I am allergic to many of them what would you suggest as a replacement for nut butter?
Erin says
Hi Natasha, you could use tahini or cookie butter. Let me know how they come out!
Meg says
Just whipped these up in seconds! They are so good!! I had some Pillsbury gluten free all purpose flour I needed to use up and natural Jif peanut butter. I followed the rest of the ingredients to a T. I bet the oat flour would taste even better. Note: the gluten free flour is not too be eaten raw, so I heated it up in the microwave for 2 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds or so, then made the recipe. Thank you for a new healthy treat!
Erin says
Hi Meg, so happy you loved them!
Zee!!! says
Hi is there any other flour you can substitute for the oat flour?
Erin says
Hi Zee, I have only made them with oat flour, but feel free to try another and just check the ratio first in case it isn’t 1:1. Let me know how they come out!
