Healthy Cookie Dough Balls are a delicious snack and that take only minutes to make. They’re filled with nut butter, sweetened with honey, and use only five ingredients total!

Easy and delicious healthy cookie dough balls
If there’s one thing I know about myself, it’s that I need a snack in between lunch and dinner. If that doesn’t happen, I will become hangry, and no one likes hangry Erin. These healthy cookie dough balls are the perfect solution! They’re filling, fuel me through the remainder of the day, and taste good alone or paired with something else.
They not only satisfy my mid-afternoon hunger craving but also my hankering for something sweet. Win-win! They’re easy to make, use minimal ingredients, and taste just like cookie dough. You’re going to want to make them again and again!
I also have a cake batter version of these that are a must-try!

Ingredients in chocolate chip cookie dough balls
These healthy cookie dough bites are made with a series of ingredients that create a delicious flavor, perfect texture, and nutrient-rich ingredient profile. Here’s everything you’ll need!
- Oat flour: First up is 1 cup + 2 tbsp of oat flour. This is going to form the base of the cookie dough balls.
- Nut butter: Next, 1/2 cup of nut butter adds both flavor and protein. I prefer salted peanut butter or cashew butter.
- Honey: To add a sweet flavor without using granulated sugar, add 3 tbsp of honey.
- Coconut oil: 1 tbsp of coconut oil will give the cookie dough the correct texture. It should be melted before using in the recipe, and feel free to add more if needed.
- Vanilla extract: Next up is 1 tsp of vanilla. This ingredient makes all of the difference, so be sure not to skip it!
- Salt: If your nut butter is made without salt, add a pinch to the batter.
- Chocolate chips: Last but not least, you will need 1/2 cup of chocolate chips. This is the most important ingredient of all, if I do say so myself! If you prefer dark chocolate chips, feel free to substitute.
Tools used to make these cookie dough treats
To make this no-bake recipe, you’ll only need a few kitchen tools ā just a large mixing bowl and a stirring utensil! A cookie scoop is recommended for shaping the balls, but not required. For measuring out ingredients, you will need 1 tsp, 1 tbsp, 1/2 cup, and 1 cup sized measuring cups.

How to make healthy cookie dough balls
These treats are super simple to make, and they make a wonderful make-ahead option for enjoying throughout the week. All you need is one bowl, about five minutes, and some refrigeration time and you’ve got yourself the best little healthy cookie dough balls ever. Here’s how it’s done!
First, mix together all of the ingredients in a bowl until they’re well combined.
If the batter is too wet to roll into balls, allow it to chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
Roll the dough into balls and store them in the fridge or freezer. If you store in the freezer, allow them to thaw for a few minutes prior to eating.

Recipe Tips
What if I don’t have oat flour?
If you’re out of oat flour but have rolled oats, you’re in luck! You can make your own oat flour by pulsing rolled oats in a food processor or Vitamix until it becomes a completely fine and flour-like consistency.
Do I have to use peanut butter?
Nope! You can use any nut butter to make this dessert or snack. Cashew butter works well, as does almond butter. You can even use sunflower seed butter if you don’t eat nuts!
How big should I make my cookie dough balls?
I recommend making each bite about 1.5 inches, which will create around 12 total.
Are dough balls healthy?
That depends how you make them! This recipe uses oat flour, nut butter, honey, coconut oil, vanilla, salt, and chocolate chips. The oat flour and nut butter add protein, and the honey, salt, and coconut oil contribute essential nutrients!
Storing leftovers
Healthy cookie dough balls can be stored in the refrigerator or the freezer! I recommend keeping them in the fridge if you plan to snack soon, but the freezer is fine too. Just be sure to let them thaw for a few minutes before enjoying from frozen.

If you liked this recipe, you’ll want to try these!
So many pre-packaged grab and go options are filled with gross ingredients and packed with sugar, so that’s why I always prefer homemade.
I want to be able to control what I’m eating. Though there are tons of brands of snack bars and bites that I absolutely love (RxBars, Emmys Cookies, Larabar), I really prefer to make everything homemade. Here are some more protein-rich snacks that you may love!

- Healthy Protein Brownie Batter
- Copycat Homemade Perfect Bars

Notes
- Don’t skip the vanilla extract ā it makes all the difference! This is one of those ingredients that can easily get overlooked, but it’s essential for that classic cookie dough flavor. It’s in there for a reason!
- If the dough is too wet to roll, just pop it in the fridge for 30 minutes. The mixture will firm right up and be much easier to roll into balls. No need to add more flour or panic ā just be patient!
- Use salted peanut butter or cashew butter for the best flavor. The salt in the nut butter balances out the sweetness perfectly. If your nut butter doesn’t have salt, just add a pinch to the batter.

These are my favorite! Everyone go make them! I used to often have actual cookie dough balls in my fridge…. but my best friend was scared they would make me sick someday so she sent me this recipe as an alternative. Now I always have these in my freezer instead!! Just as good, more filling, better ingredients, and no risk of getting sick lol. Thanks for creating this, Erin!!!
Erin says
Hi Anna, I am so happy you loved them so much! š
Maya says
Okay, I will admit that I was skeptical at first… but I love these and will be making them forever. I used cashew butter, which I think is better than peanut butter as it is less intense. I also didnāt put any coconut oil in, or any oil for that matter. I had already mixed up the other ingredients by the time I got to that step, and I think that it isnāt even necessary – the consistency was fine without it and I donāt think it would do much flavor wise.
Basically, the point is that these are amazing and you have to make them right now.
Erin says
Hi Maya, I am so happy you enjoyed them and made them your own!! š
Laura says

Erin says
Hi Sasha, I would not replace with ground nuts.
Lisa B says

Any suggestions for something other than coconut oil? I’m not a fan of this type of fat.

This is my go-to recipe whenever I’m craving energy balls or just want any easy snack ready in the fridge; I’ve made them many times. They’re the perfect little snack, but be careful…they can be addicting! š

I am OBSESSED!! Love these balls. I feel like I’m literally eating cookie dough, but its healthy so I can eat like 6 of them, right?!? Thank you for creating such a great treat!!
Erin says
Hi Kayla, so happy you loved them and yes! Sounds like you’ll need to make more! š
Alysa says
These taste like peanut butter (I used peanut butter) and not much like cookie dough. Kind of disappointing.
Erin says
Hi Alysa, I’d try to use cashew butter next time! Sorry to hear they tasted too much like PB!
Shira says
Have you ever made these chocolate covered? I think that would be so good! If I were to try, do you think it would work to just melt chocolate chips with a bit of coconut oil, dip/cover the balls and place back in the fridge (or maybe freezer?) until they harden? Let me know what you think!
Erin says
Hi Shira, I haven’t yet but that sounds like a fabulous idea!! I think your plan is perfect. Let me know how they come out!
Rachael says
Just made these and had a sneaky taste of the mixture… So delicious! I know my two girls will be excited to have for afternoon teaš
Erin says
Hi Rachael, thank you for the kind words! I am so happy you enjoyed them and hope they do too!! š
orly says
hola acabo de ver tu receta y me parece muy buena pero tengo una duda , puedo hornear la masa ?
Erin says
Hi Orly! Thank you so much for your kind words. I haven’t tried baking the dough, and since they do not have a rising agent, they wouldn’t come out like normal cookies since these are meant to be eaten as is. I do have a chocolate chip cookie recipe here you could try if you want to bake: http://www.erinliveswhole.com/simple-paleo-chocolate-chip-cookies/
