Forget about store bought BBQ sauce and say hello to this easy and healthy BBQ sauce recipe made from simple ingredients and still packed with that beloved barbecue flavor. Ready in just 15 minutes or less, this paleo BBQ sauce goes on everything!
If you’re anything like me and obsessed with sauces of all types, then you’re going to love this healthy BBQ sauce because it literally can be put on everything under the sun. Heck, I was even dipping my celery in it the other night after we made some homemade wings! Talk about tasty.
We were always a barbecue sauce kind of family growing up and we always had a big bottle of Sweet Baby Rays BBQ sauce in the fridge. That sauce would go on everything in our house.
Chicken, shrimp, into my mom’s beloved Bean and Beef roundup recipe, and on so much more. I remember even cutting up pieces of my baked potato to dunk into the BBQ sauce because I loved it that much.
But now that I’m older and I appreciate putting good-for-you foods in my body, I realize that there was a reason why that BBQ sauce tasted so dang good – straight sugar! I mean man, it sure is tasty, but I figured there had to be a way to recreate the sauce so it is sweetened naturally and made with better ingredients.
That’s where this recipe for healthy BBQ sauce comes into play.
It’s completely paleo, dairy-free, made with ingredients you probably already have in your cabinet, and takes less than 15 minutes from start to finish. You can bottle it up and store it in the fridge so you can have it on demand for whenever the perfect time for dipping or marinating comes along.
The whole recipe makes about two cups of sauce which is a pretty good amount, unless you are my family and gobble it all up within the first week.
We used it to marinade chicken, to throw on top of salads as a BBQ chicken salad with onions, tomatoes, cilantro, cheese, and sauerkraut, and to eat with some steak we made. There are so many barbecue recipes out there that the list is seriously endless.
I’m thinking bbq chicken pizza is up next…
