Enjoy these golden grahams rice krispie treats for a fun dessert!
Growing up, one of my favorite snacks was rice krispie treats. The gooey texture from the marshmallows and the crunch from the cereal was always a winning combo.
It was the best surprise when I opened my lunch box and saw that my mom had packed them for me. I would trade anything in my lunch for a rice krispie treat!
Now that I’m older, I still love indulging in this childhood favorite, but with a twist. Besides using the traditional Rice Krispies cereal, I like to mix it up by using Golden Grahams cereal for an added touch of sweetness and crunch.
If you’re a fan of both rice krispie treats and Golden Grahams cereal, then you’re in for a treat with this recipe. Not only is it easy to make, but the end result is a deliciously chewy and crispy dessert that everyone will love.
Ingredients needed
One of the reasons why I love this recipe so much is because it uses 6 simple ingredients that I normally already have in my fridge and pantry. So, I can quickly whip up a batch of these golden graham rice krispie treats whenever I’m craving something sweet!
Hereโs a bit more about what I used:
- Rice Krispies: The classic ingredient in rice krispie treats! These give the bars their classic crispy texture and slightly nutty flavor. I used 5 cups.
- Butter: I prefer to use unsalted butter in this recipe, that way I can control the amount of salt in the bars. I used 2 sticks in this recipe for a nice buttery flavor.
- Golden Grahams: This is the secret ingredient that takes these bars to another level. The Golden Grahams add a delicious honey and cinnamon flavor and also give the bars some added crunch. Make sure to crush them up a bit before adding them to the mixture.
- Marshmallows: A gooey marshmallowy mixture is what holds these treats together. Mini marshmallows melt quickly and evenly, making them perfect for this recipe.
- Vanilla Extract: Just a splash of vanilla extract adds some subtle sweetness and enhances the flavors in these treats.
- Salt: A pinch of salt helps to balance out all the sweetness in this rice krispie recipe.
Kitchen tools required
Hereโs a bit more information about what I used to make these brown butter rice krispie treats…
- Large Dutch Oven
- Whisk
- 9×13 Baking Dish
For measuring, you will need a cup, a teaspoon, and 1/2 teaspoon.
How to make Golden Grahams rice krispie treats
Start by heating up two sticks of butter in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
To get that nice brown color, make sure to keep the heat at medium-high and give it a whisk every now and then.
Once the butter starts foaming and turns golden brown (usually takes about 5-6 minutes), it’s good to go. Just keep an eye on it to prevent burning.
Lower the heat and toss in 3/4 of the marshmallows. Stir until they’re all nice and melted. Then, turn off the heat and mix in the rice krispies and golden grahams.
Once everything’s well combined, add in the remaining 1/4 of the marshmallows, along with some salt and vanilla. Give it another good mix.
Press the mixture firmly into a greased 9×13 dish using a wet hand. Let it cool at room temperature before cutting into squares.
Serve and enjoy!
