The easiest and most delicious date-filled energy bites
Our energy bites aren’t like other energy bites… they’re cool energy bites.
Jokes aside, these really are the best! They’re made with only 5 ingredients and include so many delicious and sweet flavors. One of my favorite things about them is that we use both dates and almonds, two ingredients that you don’t often see in energy balls.
The dates add an all natural sweetness and sort of adopt a chocolatey taste when combined with the almonds and chocolate chips. The oats add thickness, and the salt is the perfect final touch!
Ingredients in no bake energy bites
You’ll only need 5 ingredients to make these oat balls. When it comes to the almonds, feel free to swap with any other nut if you have a preference!
- Dates: First thing’s first — start with 1.5 cups of dates.
- Almonds: Next, you’ll need 1 cup of almonds.
- Oats: 1/4 cup of quick oats will help bulk up the recipe.
- Salt: Add flavor with 1/4 tsp of salt.
- Chocolate chips: Finally, add chocolate deliciousness with 1/4 cup of chocolate chips.
The kitchen items you’ll need to make oatmeal balls
To make no bake energy bites, you will need a large bowl, a food processor, and a spatula. You’ll also need a large plate or a baking tray to place the bites on while they chill in the refrigerator.
For measuring, you will need 1/4 tsp, 1/4 cup, 1/2 cup, and 1 cup.
How to make no bake protein balls
Any no bake recipe is a winner in my book. These don’t need an oven, just a food processor and a bit of refrigeration. Let’s get started!
To begin, soak the dates in hot water for 10 minutes. This softens them up and makes them ready for using in energy bites! Once soaked, drain and let dry.
Next, add the dates to a food processor with the almonds, oats, and salt. Blend until well combined.
Scrape down the sides of the processor as needed and keep blending. The process could take several minutes.
Once the mix is well formed, roll it into balls.
Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave in 30 second increments. Drizzle it on top of the bites.
Place the bites in the refrigerator for 1 hour or the freezer for 30 minutes.
Recipe add-ons
Want to add to your energy bites? You can mix things up by including ingredients in the mix or sprinkling on toppings!
Nut butter
Peanut or almond butter both make great mix-ins! They thicken up the recipe a bit and add a yummy flavor.
Nuts
The recipe contains almonds, but you can also add peanuts or pecans for additional flavor components.
Coconut
Coconut is another great mix-in idea, especially if you love the taste.
Seeds
Include extra protein and fiber with flax or chia seeds!
White chocolate
If you love the taste of white chocolate, feel free to use it in place of regular!
Caramel
A caramel drizzle is always a good idea. It makes a great energy bite topping!
