Enjoy tart-but-not-overly-so flavor with this delicious and tangy Classic Whiskey Sour recipe. Made with 4 main ingredients, this 2-serving recipe comes together in under a minute!
The best whiskey sour recipe
Classic whiskey sours are a delicious and tangy beverage choice that I find even non-whiskey fans to enjoy! Between the lemon juice and the literal cherry on top, there’s something so fun about these drinks.
This recipe is a quick and easy way to make the classic drink right at home using only bourbon, lemon juice, simple syrup, and an egg! Let’s get started.
Classic whiskey sour ingredients
This recipe is made with just 4 main ingredients. Together, these items come together to create a delicious and tangy beverage.
- Bourbon: Start with a base of 4 oz of bourbon.
- Lemon juice: 2 oz of lemon juice contributes the sour portion of the recipe.
- Simple syrup: Include 1.5 oz of simple syrup for flavor.
- Egg white: 1.5 oz of egg white thickens up the drink and offsets the sourness.
- Optional: Optionally include a dash of bitters for flavor.
- Luxardo cherry: Top it off with a cherry garnish!
How to make a classic whiskey sour recipe
I love an easy recipe, and this whiskey sour doesn’t disappoint. Just add the ingredients to a shaker, shake, and pour!
First, fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
Then, add the bourbon, lemon juice, simple syrup, egg white, and optional bitters. Shake vigorously for 30 seconds.
Pour into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a cherry.
Can I use lime juice?
The short answer? Absolutely! Though lemon juice is traditionally used in whiskey sours, lime juice makes a great and delicious alternative. So, if you’re out of lemon juice but have lime handy, feel free to throw it in!
Not feeling the egg white?
If you’d prefer your whiskey sour sans egg white, feel free to omit it or replace it with aquafaba. The point of the egg white is to give the drink a smoother texture while offsetting some of that sour flavor. Aquafaba makes a good replacement for this!
