Calling all chocolate peanut butter fans! Turn a campfire classic into an icy delicacy with my frozen s’mores recipe, made with natural peanut butter, chocolate pudding, and marshmallow fluff. They’re perfect for cooling down on a hot summer’s day.
Peanut butter frozen s’mores
S’mores give me such nostalgia, bringing back memories of family campfires and warm summer nights.
And while its classic form is a total winner, I’m upping the ante with today’s recipe – frozen s’mores with peanut butter!
Creamy, indulgent peanut butter makes any dessert that much more delicious (just look at my peanut butter cup smoothie and salted peanut butter banana bread). It’s safe to say that this recipe is no exception.
Made with extra Reese’s peanut butter cups, this frozen s’more recipe is sure to become a new summer staple.
Ingredients needed
My frozen s’more recipe has all the flavors of traditional s’mores with extra special touches to make it even yummier!
Here’s a little bit on everything that makes up this delicious dessert:
- Graham crackers: The outer layers of these frozen peanut butter s’mores are made from 16-18 graham crackers. They give this recipe a slight honey and nutty flavor.
- Cool Whip: 8 oz of defrosted Cool Whip makes our marshmallow layer extra fluffy and decadent.
- Marshmallow fluff: A s’more wouldn’t be complete without marshmallows! 1 cup of marshmallow fluff gives this dessert its distinct vanilla flavor. The texture is much better than whole frozen marshmallows, especially when thinned with Cool Whip.
- Reese’s peanut butter cups: I include 10 Reese’s peanut butter cups in this recipe, chopped into bite-sized chunks. While this could be an optional step, I wouldn’t skip it if I were you!
- Instant chocolate pudding: This dessert also requires a 5.0oz package of instant chocolate pudding. I recommend pre-mixing the pudding ahead of time so that it has lots of time to fully set before you assemble your s’mores.
- Milk: To make your instant chocolate pudding, you’ll need 3 cups of cold milk (unless stated otherwise on the package). You can use any kind of milk you have on hand, even a non-dairy type!
- Natural peanut butter: The final ingredient in these incredible frozen s’mores is ½ cup of natural peanut butter. This recipe is already plenty sweet without a sweetened peanut butter. I’d recommend smooth peanut butter because it’s easier to drizzle.
Kitchen tools required
Before you get started on these peanut butter s’mores, you’ll need to gather the kitchen tools below:
- 9×13 casserole dish
- Parchment paper
- 2 mixing bowls
- Whisk
- Cutting board
- Knife
- Spatula
You’ll also need measuring cups including 1 cup and ½ cup.
How to make frozen s’mores with peanut butter
The first step in this frozen s’mores recipe is to prep a casserole dish with a bit of parchment paper; this will prevent the ingredients from sticking to the dish.
Next, add about 8 crackers in a single layer to the bottom of your dish. You might need to break up a few crackers to get them to fit evenly.
Now, add your marshmallow fluff and defrosted Cool Whip to a large mixing bowl, whisking rapidly until you get a super smooth texture. Use a spatula to spread it over the prepared graham crackers.
Chop your Reese’s peanut butter cups into chunks and sprinkle them over the Cool Whip layer.
For even more chocolatey goodness, we’re going to make chocolate pudding, mixing the powder together with cold milk in a separate mixing bowl. Allow the pudding to set according to the box instructions, then spread it evenly over your Reese’s layer.
To finish off our frozen peanut butter s’mores, drizzle your natural peanut butter over the pudding and top with your remaining graham crackers.
Pop your casserole dish in the freezer for a minimum of 4 hours before cutting your s’mores into individual servings and chowing down!
Recipe tips
Below are some common frozen s’mores questions. Don’t see the answer you’re looking for? Leave a comment at the bottom of this post!
How long does it take s’mores to freeze?
These frozen s’mores need at least 4 hours to get them frozen enough to slice. Any less than that and they might turn into a gooey mess!
You can always freeze them for a bit longer to be on the safe side.
What else can you use besides peanut butter?
You can substitute peanut butter with any of your favorite nut and seed butters. Try cashew butter, almond butter, hazelnut spread, or even tahini!
Just make sure to swap out your Reese’s peanut butter cups for a suitable alternative. Some of my top picks include:
- Unreal dark chocolate almond butter cups
- Justin’s cashew butter cups
- Galerie au Chocolat hazelnut butter cups
- free2b sunflower butter cups
Can I add more layers to these frozen s’mores?
The world is your oyster when it comes to this frozen dessert!
I recommend getting creative with your layering, trying new flavor combinations, and having fun with this easy-to-make recipe.
Try adding:
- Flaky sea salt
- Crushed pretzels
- Chocolate-covered graham crackers
- Vanilla ice cream
- Caramel sauce
- Chopped nuts
- Mini marshmallows
How can I make this dessert more nutritious?
This tasty treat can get a little boost of nutrition with added protein. How can you add protein to a dessert, you ask?
Swap store-bought Reese’s for my homemade protein peanut butter cups! They’re simple to make and contain extra protein from added protein powder.
Storing leftovers
One of the best things about these frozen s’mores is that they last a really long time. Store this handy dessert in the freezer for up to two months for a sweet treat on the go!
If you’re planning on enjoying this recipe later, make sure to store it properly. Add s’mores to an airtight container, adding sheets of parchment paper between each layer.

Such a unique and fun summer dessert! This was really easy to make and (thanks to another review), we used pudding packs to save some time. We added a few more Reese’s and have no regrets – super tasty. Thanks Erin!

I was sooooo excited to make these and followed the instructions exactly! Sadly my pudding layer came out super icy? The rest of it had a nice texture but for some reason about my pudding layer wasn’t fun to eat. Would love to know if there’s anything to prevent this!

Try letting them thaw for longer next time! Or using a higher milk fat in your pudding.
Valerie says
Mine too! I froze it for only like 4 to 5 hours. Let my serving thaw for like maybe 20 minutes but it’s still icy.
Natasha Cevasco says
These are absolutely delicious!! I used premade pudding cups to make it a little easier for prep and it was perfect! Husband approved too! Official dessert of the summer?
